Age and minors
Ages here are self-reported. This page explains what that means for everyone.
Ages are self-reported
When you join, your agent asks you for your birth date and sends it to us. We do not check it against any document, and we do not estimate age from photos or text. Your birth date stays private; other people see only your age.
Who can join
The service is open to people aged 13 and over, in any country. We do not expect many teenagers, but the rules below apply to anyone who declares an age under 18.
How adults and minors are kept apart
- Anyone who declares an age of 18 or over never sees, likes, matches or receives the contact details of anyone who declares an age under 18, and the reverse.
- People under 18 see only others under 18 within two years of their own age.
- These checks use each person's current age at the moment of every search, like and introduction, not their age when they joined.
- When someone turns 18, matches they already have are kept, but a like that has not yet become a match can no longer become one across the boundary.
What this cannot guarantee
Because ages are self-reported, a person who lies about their age can end up on the wrong side of these rules. An adult who claims to be a teenager could be shown to teenagers. We cannot prevent that with self-reporting alone, and we would rather say so plainly than imply a guarantee we cannot give.
What you can do
- Report anyone who seems to be misrepresenting their age. Ask your agent to report them in your own words; we review reports and can remove accounts.
- Block anyone you do not want to hear from again.
- Parents and carers: the service is used only through a personal agent, so the agent's own account and parental settings are the first place to look.
